Matthew Banes

Matt is a 24-year Dallas Police Veteran and is currently assigned to the Tactical Training Unit.  He was in NE patrol for the first six years of his career. He spent time in the Gang Unit and was a Gang Unit liaison officer. He was a detective in Narcotics Division for seven years assigned to the Street Squad and then to Mid-Level Lab Squad Narcotics Investigations.  He spent three years as an Operator on the Dallas S.W.A.T. Team. Banes spent five years in the Narcotics Division training narcotics and vice officers in advanced undercover, advanced rifle and pistol, and also entry tactics. Banes was promoted to Sergeant and in 2023 was assigned as supervisor of the Tactical Training Group which remains his current assignment.  The Tactical Training Group is responsible for training all Dallas Police Department's specialized units to include the following: Narcotics, Vice, Gang Unit, Fugitive Unit, PSN, PNI and CRT consisting of over 400 officers. He has acquired multiple certifications over his career to include:  Hostage Rescue (Dallas S.W.A.T.), Shoot-house Instructor (Safariland Group), Dynamic Entries (TTPOA), Hostage Rescue (TTPOA), Reality Based Training Instructor (Armiger Police Training Institute), Tactical Shield Training Advanced Course (Point Blank Enterprises), ALERRT Active Shooter Level I Instructor Certification in addition to many other advanced weapons, tactics, safety and high-risk response instructor courses. 

Experience-wise Matt has made entry on hundreds of high risk, hazardous warrant services and has responded to numerous critical police incidents including the attack on Dallas Police Headquarters and the ambush on July 7th.
