Karl Milam is a U.S. Army Veteran and has 29 years of law enforcement experience. He retired as a lieutenant and head of the Cambridge Police Department (Ohio) Detective Bureau. His previous duties included S.R.T., patrol, field training officer, undercover narcotics officer, narcotics agent, S.W.A.T., detective and K9 officer.
Milam has worked assignments with Southeastern Ohio Narcotics and Central Ohio Drug task forces and major crimes assignments with the United States Bureau of ATF and Zanesville Special Investigations Unit. He graduated from the Ohio Attorney General’s Basic and Advanced Investigations courses.
Milam served eighteen years as team leader and commander for the Southeastern Ohio Regional Tactical Team and commander of the city S.W.A.T team. He is graduate of Miami-Metro Dade Florida S.W.A.T. Course, Columbus Police-Ohio Advanced S.W.A.T. Course, Singleton International Advanced S.W.A.T. Course, U.S. Army Advanced Team Leader Course-Camp Atterbury-Pectel, Tactical Team Leader Course-Howe and numerous advanced weapons and tactics, courses. Milam is a former board member of the Ohio Tactical Officers Association. Milam was a certified firearms and defensive tactics instructor with the State of Ohio and continues to train local agency officers and tactical teams.
Milam worked and retired two dual purpose police K-9s (both S.W.A.T. assigned) and is a current Ohio State Police K-9 Evaluator. He developed a basic K-9 course with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Association and wrote and developed K-9 Policy within his agency. He is former vice president of the Police K-9 Association-PK9A where he continues to train, decoy and help develop police dogs. PK9A is one of the largest training groups in the country with upwards of fifty k-9 teams at any given time.
